GKD – GEBR. KUFFERATH AG
The owner-run technical weaver GKD – GEBR. KUFFERATH AG is the global market leader for metal and plastic woven solutions as well as transparent media facades. Under the umbrella of GKD – WORLD WIDE WEAVE the company combines four independent business units: industrial meshes (SOLID WEAVE), process belt meshes (WEAVE IN MOTION), architectural meshes (CREATIVE WEAVE) and Transparent media façades. With its six plants – including the headquarters in Germany and other facilities in the US, South Africa, China, India and Chile – as well as its branches in France, Great Britain, Spain, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and worldwide representatives, GKD is never far from its customers.
WASTE WATER FILTRATION
Sieving and filter meshes from GKD are used in the mechanical micro filtration of waste water in many areas: from industrial water treatment to filtration of raw water through to preliminary filtration in sewage plants. GKD’s product range also includes stand-alone compact filter equipment.
Optimized Dutch Weaves made of stainless steel are used as the filter medium in many of these applications. Due to their special structure, these meshes are able to separate organic impurities: The slot-shaped pore geometries on the surface of the mesh allow for reliable separation of particles at the required separating limit. Our filtration meshes are thus able to achieve a particularly high dirt holding capacity with minimal clogging while being easy to clean.
GKD supplies filtration mesh for further processing or readymade filter segments for many applications.
Porometric is our new wire mesh weave. Initial results show that it offers outstanding solutions for a broad range of filtration tasks. At a constant volume flow, the higher porosity of the Porometric filtration mesh resulting from its design reduces the highest, local pore velocity by up to 40% compared to conventional filtration meshes. At the same time the flow rate increases considerably when using this new mesh type.
Optimized Dutch Weave: High permeability
Optimized plain dutch weave is a further development of plain dutch weave for ultrafine filtration. It is made up of a small number of thick warp wires and many thin weft wires. Due to the larger number of fine weft wires, these are interlocked during the production process. The result: slit-like openings with very small pore sizes (small edge length), which ensure a high level of permeability.
Screening and filtration segments
Screening and filter segments are used in vertical disc filters. These filters are then used for the filtration of aqueous media, particularly when large volumes need to be filtered. Screening and filter segments from GKD are the heart of filter systems. Frame constructions and completely screened filter elements can be supplied as spare parts or OEM products.
Making progress in weaving technology and using modern development tools, GKD improved their highly permeable Optimized Dutch Weave meshes, reaching a pore size ranging between 4.9 and 6.9 µm without any additional process steps like coating or calendering involved.
